Trevor the Lion Cast as Aslan in Downton Abbey

Carnival Films announced today that Trevor, a four-year lion from Felixstowe, has been cast as Aslan in the third series of ITV’s Downton Abbey. While leaked casting sides label the Aslan character as an escaped lion from a traveling circus, recent remarks made by series star Dame Maggie Smith suggest otherwise.
“I fully believed I’d retired from fantasy after the last Potter film,” cooed the Dame during a charity luncheon. She then reportedly pursed her lips and cocked her head slightly like a velociraptor ready to strike.  ”But I’m told Violet will be getting to know a lion next year. In the Biblical sense.”
The idea of a Narnian encounter at the center of the new series seems to jibe with rampant fan speculation. Images of workers unloading a massive armoire outside Highclere Castle—the Hampshire estate the series calls home—have gone viral. “Wardrobe much?” tweeted one young fan.
Series creator Julian Fellowes has not confirmed or denied the allegations directly. When reached for comment, he cheekily replied, “What do you suppose is next for Lady Edith? A lot of misery in series two there. I’d say she’s ripe for satyr, wouldn’t you?”
